Me and my girlfriend are going to Ireland for a few weeks, and our idea is to go through Northern Ireland and back to Ireland. We would be collecting the car in Cork and returning it in Dublin. Do we have to pay extra to do that?

Agent

It depends which car / supplier you choose.

Client

Oh I see...

Agent

The nearest pick up possibility is the Airport of Cork.

Client

Ok, let's say I choose the Ford Fiesta from Carhire.. would they charge extra if we go to Northern ireland?

Agent

Supplier Carhire say this about cross border and travel restrictions:-
Travel restrictions:-
Please note that cross border travel is permitted to the North Island. It is a requirement before traveling across the border that you inform the local car rental agent before leaving the rental location. There is an approximate 34.05 Euro (plus tax) fee applicable for border crossing into Northern Ireland.

Car rental is not allowed at any time to leave the island of Ireland. Rental vehicles must be returned to the Republic of Ireland. If the required coverage is not purchased, the renter will accept full responsibility for any recovery fees, in the event of car breakdown.

Client

Very good. Thanks a lot for the info.

You can find this under the link "IMPORTANT INFORMATION " at the left hand side of each car photo. Click on it and it opens a new window. Choose "CAR" and then "TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS"
